“papillon” isn’t brandnew, the single was released last fall. anyway, the song reminds heavily of the 80s. and depeche mode. i’m neither a fan of depeche mode or 80s music. but fuck it - i think the song’s awesome! i love the beat and the voice fits it perfectly. and the video is kinda cool. guys running around without sweating (sic!??).

nirvana // jesus doesn’t want me for a sunbeam

nirvana will always have a special place in my heart. ugh! sounds pretty kitschy - but nevermind. i grew up with their music and i just love them very much. i know, you know that already - most of their songs are melancholic and somewhat depressing. BUT there’s this fantastic unplugged concert with this cute little song “jesus doesn’t want me for a sunbeam”. it’s a cover from the band the vaselines. and woah - this song always makes me smile. and i like how it sounds like an old sailor song.

the chemical brothers & q-tip // galvanize

when “galvanize” first came out as a single a couple of years ago, i absolutely loathed it. but a couple of weeks ago i re-listened to “push the button” (a great record, btw!) and “galvanize”. now, i really like it! the maroccian sound and q-tip’s voice are just great. i like the roughness of the song. also it would’ve been a perfect film song for movies like ghost dog or la haine.

seit ein paar tagen höre ich wieder nirvana. das ist an sich nichts ungewöhnliches, habe ich sie vor 16 jahren doch ständig gehört. das besondere an “nevermind” oder “in utero” ist, dass man die alben auch nach einjähriger pause hören kann und es immer so klingt, als ob man die band gerade erst entdeckt hat. “nevermind” ist für mich immer noch die beste platte, die jemals herausgekommen ist. das hängt zum einen an der musik, die zeitlos ist und an den vielen, vielen erinnerungen, die damit verbunden sind.

letzte woche lief auf mtv das “nirvana unplugged” konzert. es war ein gigantisches gefühl, das konzert nach so langer zeit wieder zu sehen. dabei sind mir verschiedene gedanken durch den kopf gegangen.

_wo ist die zeit nur geblieben?
_warum werde ich das gefühl nicht los, dass eine band wie nirvana oder eine person wie kurt cobain im heutigen musikgeschäft sehr fehlen und die lücke, die sie hinterlassen haben nicht mehr geschlossen werden kann.
_warum war mtv damals so verdammt cool und ist heute so verdammt peinlich?
_heute wäre cobain 42 jahre alt.
_was würde er zu mp3s, barack obama, plastikpop, austauschbaren bands, banken/weltwirtschaftskrise, zur gesellschaft sagen?
_wäre er immer noch das idol einer ganzen generation?
_würde er langweiligen stadionrock machen?
_würde er immer noch mit zerrissenen jeans und wollcardigan rumlaufen, oder wäre er auf designer klamotten umgestiegen?

fragen, auf die es leider keine antworten mehr gibt.
