spring songs #9, #10, #11

ella fitzgerald // scat “one note samba”

ella fitzgerald was not only a marvellous jazz singer, but also a fantastic scat singer (as you can hear in the video). this is what jazz is about: improvisation. and ella was an excellent improviser. rumor has it, she started scatting, because she forgot the words…but it really doesn’t matter. it’s just beautiful.

guru’s jazzmatazz // state of clarity

“state of clarity” is the living proof, that jazz and hip-hop are complementing one another. guru founded the band project jazzmatazz in 1993 and released four records so far. i really like the whole concept of the fusion between jazz and hip-hop. and i love the video of “state of clarity”, because fritz the cat plays in it - he’s a pretty cool cat!

skalpel // 1958

skalpel are a polish jazz/electro band and they’re pretty crazy. but i like their music, though it’s sometimes a bit too dark. 1958 is a nice song for days like today…

niiice! better than that minimal-crap you used to like last year. ;) no just kidding. listened to some songs and I do like skalpel! goes directly to my whishlist. or my torrent-downloader… *cough ;)

hahahaha, yeah i know what you mean. :D blame hamburg and its clubs. ;) i barely listen to minimal today. but i still quite like it…

buut - i’m delighted you like jazz! really, buy/steal the (old) records, they’re not as boring as many seems to think. ;) ella is great and so is duke ellington or miles davis…

skalpel are a bit crazy, but their debut record is really good. if you like them, maybe you’ll like bonobo too (he mixes jazz tunes with electro and funk/soul).

i could go on for hours talking about music…if you’ll need some recommendations….just ask :)
